We’re in the final moments of packing right now to go to my daughter Abby’s graduation from college. This is the first of my children to graduate from college. Abby is a very special girl. She has always been the most daring of my three kids. She would always climb to the highest point in the tree out front. She would also never sit still. She would love watching the Lion King but usually from a position on the couch with her head on the seat and her legs moving above her or dangling over the back of the couch.
Four years ago we nearly lost her as she was in a terrible car accident the day after Thanksgiving of her senior year in high school. Yes, she was heading to the early morning sales on Black Friday. After months of rehab she was able to walk across stage at graduation. I cried like a baby as I took pictures that day. Now four years later I’ll be taking pictures again. I’m sure I’ll cry. Kim, an aid at school told me to bring tissues.
I’m so proud of all three of my children but this weekend will be Abby’s. She is so full of life and has such a great attitude about life’s mishaps. Even on the day I informed her she may never walk again she was ready to an example and inspiration to others. She really is very special.
So we’re off to graduation…and a few tears of joy.
